SDEBL League Update - May 12, 2008

League Fees

The balance of all League fees are due no later than May 28th, Total cost is $2,100.00 for the 16-and-Under and Academy Divisions, and $2,750.00 for the Elite Division. Remember, we take credit cards.

Schedule:

The schedules for all three divisions are finalized and published on the league website www.sdelitebaseball.com. Please review them as soon as possible. If you have any issues with the schedule please report them to us no later than Sunday, May 18th, 2008. We will do our best to accommodate change requests, but there are no guarantees due to the many factors that go into scheduling, such as umpires, field availability and compatibility with the other team.

Rosters:

All teams should be finalizing their rosters. Your initial roster is due June 1st with final rosters due to the league office by July 1st.  Attached is the Official San Diego Elite Baseball League roster form.  The form can also be download from the website; www.sdeitebsbeall.com. The form is in MS Word format and can be easily completed and emailed back as an attachment to Sam Pepper at the league office sam@usabf.com. Or, it can be completed, printed and faxed to the league at (619) 271-6659.

The new roster form contains no contact player information. League policy is that player contact information can only be obtained from the team manager. Also, it is the League’s intention to share the roster information with college recruiters and professional scouts. Through our newsletter, website and other marketing endeavors we are striving to raise league and USABF awareness among recruiters and professional scouts. Our newsletter is distributed to more than 800 youth baseball enthusiasts around the country, including coaches at major four-year and two-year universities and colleges as well as professional scouts. We are always on the lookout for more college and scouts. If you know of any you would like to have added to the mailing list please send their names (and email addresses if possible) to Sam Pepper at sam@usabf.com.  The more scouts and recruiters we have looking at our league and tournaments, the more it raises the value of your program.

Player Eligibility:

League rules state that a player is not permitted to change teams, once he has played in a league game. The only exception is when both managers agree to the change. Should a player leave a team, he is not eligible for further league play on another team, nor is he eligible for post-season tournament play in USABF-sanctioned events – the World Series and Wood-Bat Championships.

Post Season Play:

Only the players registered in the San Diego Elite Baseball League (must be on a SDEBL team roster) will be eligible for post-season play. This includes the USABF World Series and the USABF Wood Bat Championships. If a player does not play in the league, that player is ineligible for post-season play in these USABF-sanctioned events.

This rule does not apply to 14U and 15U teams. Participation in post season events, including the USABF World Series is open throughout San Diego County. First priority will be given to any SDEBL registered team that wishes to sponsor a 14U or 15U team. Second priority goes to teams that participate in any USABF-sanctioned tournament during the 2008 summer tournament season.

The 2008 SDEBL Summer League has eight 16-and-Under teams, nine Academy teams and eight Elite teams.

Team Statistics:

You will be receiving during the next week a statistic reporting form in MS Excel format (we can also provide one in MS Word format if you prefer). The reporting form will be as simple as possible and will entail you or one of your coaches completing the form following a game and emailing it to the league. Each team will have a page on the SDEBL website that will contain information about the team – more about this in a later email. Sam Pepper at the league office will compile the stats from the teams wishing to participate in this program and publish them on the team’s individual web page. Again, we hope this service will aid in enhancing your players’ visibility among recruiters and scouts as well as demonstrate added value to your parents and players. More to come on this later.

USABF Petco Park Night:

The San Diego Padres have set aside two nights as USABF nights - July 7, 2008 against the Florida Marlins and August 1, 2008 against the San Francisco Giants. Tickets are $15 per seat in the upper infield reserved section, a savings of $6 from the regular price of $21. Go to the league website www.sdbaseballelite.com for details on how to order your tickets directly from the Padres. Please pass this information on to your parents and players.

Golf Tournament:

Just a reminder that you still have time to enter a foursome in the annual USABF/SDEBL Golf Bash is scheduled for June 6, 2008 at the Salt Creek Golf Club in Chula Vista. Enter and win credits toward entry fees at upcoming major tournaments. Details available on League website www.sdbaseballelite.com.

Best of luck to all teams and we look forward to a successful summer season.

See you on the field
